MOTORCYCLING/SPORTS CAR DRIVING - Graham County is the home of two of the most popular roads in the United States for motorcycling and sports car touring. Deal's Gap, also known as the Dragon and Tail of the Dragon, boasts 318 curves in 11 miles of asphalt. The new Cherohala Skyway is quickly approaching the Dragon in fame. HIKING - Graham County offers hundreds of miles of hiking with something for everyone. The more experienced overnight hikers will want to venture into the deepest wilderness areas where few if any other people will be seen. The day hiker can find access to mountain tops with inspiring vistas. There are even facilities for the elderly and handicapped to get up-close to nature. Hot spots include Hangover, Slickrock Creek, Huckleberry Knob, Stratton Bald, Hooper Bald, and the Snowbird Wilderness area.

FISHING - Lake Santeetlah and Fontana Lake offer unique fishing opportunities with a wilderness view. Very little of either lake is developed and it will stay that way for the most part as the shorelines are protected from development by the United States Forest Service. There is also some of the finest trout fishing in America in the many creeks of Graham County.

BOATING/SWIMMING - Lake Santeetlah and Fontana Lake are great places to ski, swim, or just sightsee on a pontoon boat. There are several places where you can rent what you need. Spend a glorious day away from the crowds in one the few remaining unspoiled lakes. Just want to jump in the water? Try the Cheoah Point Swimming Area.

BIKING - Two great places to mountain bike are Fontana and Tsali Recreation Area. Both have trails specifically for bikers. Bikes are not allowed on many of the hiking trails, so check before you venture out. The new Cherohala Skyway offers a real challenge for road bikers. Some have already proved their worth. WHITEWATER RAFTING - The nearby Nanthala Gorge is the perfect place to get your feet wet in a whitewater raft or kayak. This Class 1, 2 and 3 river is great for the beginners. The Ocoee, where the 1996 Olympic kayaking events were held, is less than 2 hours away. Here is where the more experienced will want to go.
